The funding model
This funding model means, plainly and simply, that every cent of partnership funding received by the UL Trust is spent on the purpose for which it was intended. There are no administration or management rake-offs. How is this model achieved?
For a start, the on-campus Resource Mobilisation and Development Centre is funded by the universities themselves in terms of a small staff, accommodation and communications. The director of the Trust and all travel and partnership-building activities are financed from the interest paid on judiciously managed investments.
The 100% model indicates a highly efficient organisation that is above all concerned with encouraging partnerships that contribute to the many challenges facing the developing world in general, and southern Africa more specifically. An essential starting point for the pursuit of such a vision is to make best use of the investments underpinning the relationships between university expertise and the university’s external partners.
