About the University of Limpopo Trust
The UL Trust (IT1287/89) is an autonomous legal entity registered with the Master of the High Court and governed by a Trust Deed and a Board of Trustees. The funds raised by the Trust are spent directly and entirely on the universities’ and the funding partners’ nominated programmes, and not at the Trust’s discretion.
To date, the Trust has contributed more that R270-million to the University of Limpopo and the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (previously to the Medical University of Southern Africa – Medunsa) in support of cutting-edge research, innovative teaching and numerous community engagement programmes.
The UL Trust is tax exempt in terms of Section 18A of the Income Tax Act of 1962. This means that local corporate and individual donors received tax exemption certificates to the full value of their contributions and these contributions are tax deductible under South African law. The Trust is also a registered not-for-profit organisation (NPO number 930005533).
